ABSTRACT The Sociology of Dreaming: Themes and Issues Dr.Celia Briar and Dr. Mary Murray
Summary of Presentation Dreaming is still generally regarded as having no sociological significance. Yet dreams potentially tell the dreamer much about the society they live in and their place in that society, whether or not they act upon insights gained from dreams. This paper expands upon existing work on the sociology of dreaming. In doing this, we explore the challenges that a sociology of dreaming pose to sociological theory. In this context we raise a number of epistemological questions which expose the limitations of aspects of sociological discourse. In this work in progress we also report on our empirical research to date which contributes to a sociology of dreaming. Learning Objectives. Evaluation questions: Abstract
