During grief, people experience change in their dreams.  A person’s mourning of loss involves three general stages, each characterized by different types of dream imagery.  Workshop participants learn the typical dreams to expect and how these can be used as a basis for self-understanding and healing.  Practical exercises are included

Learning Objectives:

1.      What are the three typical phases of grief?

2.      What types of dreams are most representative of these phases?

3.      What is one dream work method used to encourage healing during grief?

Abstract

At the ASD’s 2002 conference at Tufts University, an exciting event took place: the birth of the Dream Activism Group.  In the wake of the terrorist events of 9-11 2001, we (Guiley and Dwyer) envisioned a project that would awaken people to the power of focused dreaming for positive social change.  The group that came together at the conference discussed and developed a platform for collective dreaming that would take place once a month with an incubation affirmation: “Tonight I dream the awakened heart... today I awaken the dreaming heart.”  Our affirmation was made as universal as possible in order to address the personal needs and interests of the diverse dreaming community.

The Dream Activism Group was inaugurated as one of the ASD’s online study/discussion groups.  Since then, we have carried on a lively discussion of our enlightening experiences dreaming as a group. We have experienced mutual dreaming, possible precognitive dreaming, and energy-charged ideas we have implemented. The group keeps written summary records, compiled monthly by scribe Janice Ryalls.  We (Guiley and Dwyer) wrote a report of our formation and initial dreaming, published in Dream Time.

Our intent is for our proactive dreaming will inspire and shape ways that we initiate actions in the world for the social good.  The Dream-In takes the work of Dream Activism to a new level and a larger audience.

The Dream-In can be divided into three parts: 1) Introduction, background, summaries; 2) Invitation for participants to share their own ideas and experiences; 3) Guided meditation dream incubation for the entire group.
