2009 IASD Dream Art Exhibition
CALL FOR ENTRIES

“Earth Dreaming”
2009 Juried Dream Art Exhibition
International Association for the Study of Dreams

A juried exhibition of dream-inspired art will be on display at the Hotel during the middle three days of the annual IASD conference, with a reception on Sunday evening for the artists and conference attendees. For details on how to submit entries, check the IASD web site or contact Richard Russo, Chair of the IASD Arts Committee, for further information (RR@well.com).

Eligibility:

  • Original art work about or inspired by dreams.

  • Connection to conference theme
(“Earth Dreaming”) appropriate but not required

  • Open to all
(Since all work must be delivered and picked up in person, we assume most entries will come from IASD members attending the conference or artists residing in the Chicago metropolitan area).

Media: All two-dimensional and three-dimensional media
will be considered, including painting, drawing,
          collage, sculpture, and installation art.

The show will be curated by Richard Russo, Chair, IASD Arts Committee, and Kim Vergil, Montreal, Canada artist.

Criteria considered by the jury in reviewing entries will include:

  • Quality (we are looking for professional quality art works)

  • Connection to dreams or dreaming

  • Completeness and quality of supporting documents (incomplete documentation or vague, unclear statements may disqualify an entry.  We need a completed entry form, and we need to know how your work is dream-related, how big it is, what the medium is, etc.)

  • Quality of digital files.  (Out of focus, poorly composed or difficult to see images will be rejected.)

Deadline for entries: April 22, 2009.

Nancy Richter Brzeski Dream Art Awards

Thanks to the generous support of Nancy Richter Brzeski, several thousand dollars in prizes will be awarded for the best Dream Art.  Winners will be chosen from among the artists whose work is accepted for the show, unless they specifically ask to have their names withdrawn.  For consideration for these awards, in addition to the required documentation for the show, artists’ statements must include the dream or the significant part of the dream that inspired the art. The award winners will be chosen by a special panel; criteria for selection will be originality, integrity, universality, and relevance to dreaming.  Winners will be announced at a gallery reception Sunday evening, during the IASD conference.

How to Enter:

Each artist may submit up to 5 images (multiple views or details of the same piece are acceptable where appropriate).  Entries must be submitted in digital format.

  • Files should be in JPEG  format only

  • Images should display in the proper orientation

  • Resolution should be 300dpi at a minimum of size of 4” x 6”, with no side longer than 8”

  • File names should include the artist's name and an image number (e.g. Sue Jones 01; Sue Jones – detail 01, Sue Jones 02 etc.").

Images must be submitted on a CD, along with accompanying documents and entry forms. Each CD must have 2 separate folders clearly marked: one folder called Images (contains only the jpeg image files), the other called Documents (contains all supporting documents in Microsoft Word document format only)

Your name should appear on all your images and documents so there is no confusion with other artists

Required Documentation:

  • A completed and signed entry form, available on the IASD web site. (Enclose hardcopy)

  • A brief biographical statement suitable for inclusion in a gallery binder.

  • An artist's statement explaining how the work is dream-related (suitable for inclusion in a gallery binder).

  • A list of digital images submitted

    • For digital images, list (artist name) then number:  e.g., “Sue Jones 01”

    • For each image listed, give title, medium and size of work and price in US$ (if work is not for sale, indicate “NFS”)

    • The artist's name should appear at the top of (each) page.

  • See additional requirements cited above if applying for Arts Awards.

  • Any additional comments or personal communications should go in a separate document or cover letter.

  • Failure to include all of these documents will disqualify your entry.

Deadline:        CDs and paperwork must be postmarked by April 22, 2008.
No email submissions will be accepted.

Fee: There is no entry fee for this show, nor is membership in IASD required. However, priority will be given to IASD members whose work meets the jury's standards for selection.  For membership information, check the IASD web site ( www.ASDreams.org ).

Notification of Jury's Decision:  The jury will review all entries during May, and notify entrants of the results in late May.

No substitution of selected work.

Submission Materials:  No submission materials will be returned.

All work accepted for the show will be added to the IASD online dream art galleries, unless you specifically request that we not do so.

Liability, and Delivery & Pickup of Work:

All art accepted for the show must be hand delivered to the gallery on Thursday evening June 25 between 6:00 – 8:00 or Friday morning June 26 before 11:00, July 8th.  Work must be picked up during the day on Tuesday, June 30.  If your work is accepted for the show, you will receive detailed delivery and pickup instructions prior to those dates.
