IASD MEMBER EVENTS AROUND THE WORLD
PRE-CONFERENCE MEETING IN ROLDUC PROMISES TO CONNECT
IASD MEMBERS
Quite a few IASD members from Europe and Asia feel that they barely know
each other. To better get to know each other there will be a pre-conference
meeting under the title "The diversity of Euroasian IASD members". Members
from Europe and Asia are invited to give a 3 to 5 minutes personal
introduction. It's an icebreaker but it's also helpful to see what kind of
talent we have within IASD. In that introduction, we would like to know:
• A little personal information, like your background, career and other
interests or favorite ways you spend your time.
• Your main focus of your interest in dreams. If you're a researcher, what
seems to be the recurring theme of your research and why? If you're more of
a private dreamer, what kind of dreams occupy your mind the most and why?
Whether you’re a networker, publicist, or artist, we’re interested!
We requested a 3.30-5.30 pm time slot on Friday. To give everybody a chance
to speak, there will be a timekeeper.
There's room for up to 20 active participants. If you're an IASD member,
you're automatically interesting enough. If you're presenting at the
conference, you're welcome to advertise your session. Please contact
Harry
Bosma or
Kirsten
Borum if you're interested.

GOT YOUR PASSPORT?
Get your passports ready! Obtain or renew your passport today, as it takes
several weeks for your application to be processed.
As a reminder – a passport is needed for all international travelers to the
Netherlands. If you are traveling from the United States, your passport
should be valid for at least three months beyond the period of stay in the
Netherlands. The 90-day period begins when you enter any of the Schengen
group of countries. If you are traveling from a non-Schengen country you
will also need to apply for a special visa. The
2011 Conference website can provide
some guidelines for international travelers. Always check with the consular
services of your country for up-to-the-minute travel advisories.
VISIT 2011 CONFERENCE SITE WITH HOST WILLEM FERMONT: NEW VIDEO ON
IASD YOU TUBE CHANNEL
Visit the IASD YouTube Channel to
see a most exciting new video preview of the location of IASD's 28th Annual
International Conference at the beautiful 11th Century abbey of Rolduc at
Kerkrade, the Netherlands!
Conference Host Willem Fermont initially created this
presentation for the 2010 IASD Conference in Asheville, North Carolina, but
the addition of new slides and a voice over, engineered by YouTube channel
manager, Tamara Gurbis of Phenomenal Films, plus music
arranged by Dutch composer Hans Kockelmans, makes this jewel of a video one
you will surely want to see.
Rolduc Conference Promotional Video
For IASD Members who are on Facebook or other social networking sites, this
video creates a unique opportunity to "share" the beautiful conference
location with friends, building excitement for the conference and (we hope)
increasing attendance.
MORE VIDEO! IASD UNVEILS MEMBER VIDEO SPOTLIGHT
At the urging of its newest committee, the Social
Networking Subcommittee, IASD is creating a new feature in Dream News and on
the IASD YouTube Channel
Due to surging public interest in lucid dreaming, we open this feature with
WAKE UP! the trailer for a video created by members Chris Olsen
and Kira Sass, who co-directed and co-produced the
half-hour documentary WAKE UP! Exploring the Potential of Lucid Dreaming.
Chris is a PhD student at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology,
completing his dissertation on the historiography of lucid dreaming. Kira
Sass is a producer and filmmaker, whose experience includes experimental
filmmaking, corporate projects and documentaries. Together, Kira and Chris
decided to produce this film out of the desire to explore lucid dreaming
themselves, as well as a passion to share the unique potential of dream
lucidity with a greater audience.
The film chronicles the journey of a handful of pioneers who are exploring
the wonders and mysteries that dwell at the intersection of dreams and
consciousness. It is a mixture of personal lucid dream experiences, insights
and relevant research. Interviews for the documentary were conducted at the
2007 IASD Conference at Sonoma State University, where the filmmakers were
looking for people who had something to say about how lucid dreaming can
improve the quality of one's waking life.
As demonstrated last year during IASD's annual online PsiberDreaming
Conference, many talented IASD members have begun to turn their skills
toward film making. If you are creating a dream-related video of
professional quality, and would like to have it considered for this Member
Video Spotlight feature, contact Jean Campbell at
jccampb@aol.com
For legal purposes, all Member Video Spotlight videos will be identified as
such, and will carry the following words on the YouTube channel: ”IASD
Provides this video as a focus on our members and does not necessarily
endorse the content."
IASD 2010 PLEDGE DRIVE ATTAINS FINANCIAL GOAL
Thanks to the donations of several generous
IASD members, who "gave the gift
of dreams", IASD will be able to continue a tradition of awards and prizes
which encourage particularly students and young people to become involved in
the premiere dream organization, IASD, and to pursue dream-oriented research
and creative careers that might otherwise have been impossible dreams.
The 2010 Pledge Drive, ending for tax purposes in January, provided over
$10,000 from members in the following categories: Dream Research Awards,
$3,750. These donated funds will be matched by IASD, bringing research grant
funds for this year to $7,500. Similarly the $550 donated for Student Awards
will be matched by IASD to create awards totaling $1,100.
Thanks to the ongoing generosity of Nancy Richter Brzeski, IASD will once
again be able to provide awards for its annual Dream Art Show, held this
year at the June 24-28 conference in the Netherlands.
Web design and innovation, publications, conference scholarships, and
low-income memberships are all IASD benefits provided by the annual
fund-raising drive, along with many donations which are earmarked for
general funds.
As always, IASD hopes to continue and expand this fundraising effort in
2011, providing educational and research opportunities. Funds collected
during the 2010 Pledge Drive totaled $10,401. Donations can be made on a
year-round basis at
http://asdreams.org/donation/
ADVERTISE IN THE 2011 CONFERENCE PROGRAM
Do you have a product or business to promote?
Do you host a dream group? Are you an artist who would like to reach out to
an international audience? Do you offer ongoing workshops? IASD currently
boasts more than 90 published authors among its members. Was your ad
included? If not, don’t get left out again this year. Highlight your
presence at the 2011 IASD Conference by advertising in the annual conference
program.
The annual conference program is handed out to every attendee of the IASD
Conference and contains key information on events, schedule of sessions,
workshops, and much more. Attendees constantly refer to the program onsite
and hold onto it for future reference, generating multiple impressions for
advertisers. Not all conference attendees are IASD members, so advertising
in the conference program increases your exposure.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS JANUARY 2010
Spotlight on New York
by Gloria Sturzenacker, IASD regional rep for the New York City metro area
IASD Past President Robert Bosnak, the psychoanalyst whose
book A Little Course in Dreams introduced many people to dreamwork, is going
to be a keynote speaker at IASD’s conference in Kerkrade, Netherlands, in
June. Robbie is Dutch. He lives in Australia now but still presents the
Manhattan seminars on embodied dreamwork that he started during the 26 years
he lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
New York City is also Dutch—or at least it started that way, as a colony in
the 1600s. This has presented a great opportunity to promote the Kerkrade
conference—one to which Robbie made a major contribution with a talk on
January 30 after one of his Manhattan seminars. You can read about the talk
on the DreamTreasureNY blog, which
has also been a handy vehicle for raising awareness of the conference.
Size, financial and cultural importance makes New York a jackpot for
promoting the conference. Flyers for Robbie’s talk about “Nieuw Amsterdam
and the Dream of the Golden Age: An Alchemical Perspective” were distributed
to the Dutch consulate, many Dutch clubs and organizations, and a slew of
organizations having to do with Dutch genealogy and New York’s early
history.
Some of the information collected during the publicity preparation in New
York can be useful to other regional reps and IASD members looking for ways
to promote the Kerkrade conference. For example, use the maps and databases
at DutchInAmerica.com to find connections in your area. Various parts of the
country attracted the dispersion of Dutch settlers, but even in colonial
times Nieuw Amsterdam was just one part of the much larger New Netherland,
including parts of what are now the states of New York, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, and Delaware. The “Getting into a Nieuw
Amsterdam State of Mind” post on the
DreamTreasureNY blog might give you some additional ideas.
If you plan a Dutch-related dream event, get it listed on the
DutchInAmerica.com events calendar. Also send it to me
glsturz@cs.com and I’ll post it on
a network of Dutch ex-pats on which I now have an account.

IASD STUDENT AWARDS FOR DREAM RELATED RESEARCH AND PROJECTS
We are pleased to announce that an anonymous donor who has generously
provided funding for the Student Research Award for the past 6 years has
graciously agreed to provide matching funds for the 2011 competition! The
IASD Board of Trustees will provide the balance of funds.
As in previous years, there will be two $500 awards. The first is for the
best student submission of original scientific research on dreams and
dreaming. The second is for the best submission of original historical,
literary, artistic, or theoretical research. Undergraduate and graduate
students are eligible to submit papers.
All participants must submit their presentations in electronic form,
preferably through email to office@asdreams.org or if necessary by mailing
the files, copied to a CD or a DVD, to the IASD office by March 15, 2011.
IASD-Student Research
