IASD was a sponsor of the event and it was a great success. Hundreds of visitors enjoyed dozens of multi–colored and amazingly shaped dream catchers pinned on the ancient walls and stones all along the streets of the Old Village. Dream inspired fun was offered in the afternoon with the reading of dream stories, written for the occasion. Last but not least, the children appreciated a free snack, while IASD flyers were read by their parents. In all, 100 flyers were distributed. As Massimo Schinco, Regional Rep for Northern Italy, said to the promoters, “In a moment of economic and social crisis, when people may be tempted with mistrust, selfishness and even violence, the volunteers have done a lot of hard work showing that kind pathways can lead to solutions. They began simply and everybody had the opportunity to be involved, because everybody dreams! Deirdre Barrett has a guest blog at Bob Mankoff’s ‘From the Cartoonist’s Desk.’ She describes how some New Yorker cartoons have literally been “dreamed up,” and discusses the potential for dreams to spark creativity. She offers brief instructions for dream incubation, and then she and Bob challenge readers to incubate a dream targeting the current cartoon caption contest. It’s all here: http://tinyurl.com/8yyah27 DREAMS CLOUD HAS VIDEOS FOR VEWING On www.dreamscloud.com there are several Skype interviews posted by Robert Van de Castle and Bobbie Pimm. The interviewer, Kentyn Grey, was in California and they were in Virginia. Robert is currently creating more films with dream authors in Holland. Dreams Cloud will have a videographer, Maria Cernuto, at the Berkeley conference, and they are hoping to create some short videos with several board members. NEW DREAM BOOK BY ROBERT MOSS** “Again and again, in dreams,” writes bestselling author and world-renowned dream explorer Robert Moss in Dreaming the Soul Back Home: Shamanic Dreaming for Healing and Becoming Whole (New World Library, June 15, 2012), “our higher or greater self comes stalking us.” This spirit self comes because, “in the course of any life we are liable to suffer soul loss and because in order to be whole and well, we must find the means of soul recovery.” Dreaming the Soul Back Home explains how we lose connection with vital parts of ourselves during times of transition, hardship, change, and struggle. “On a visceral level, we all know how soul loss comes about,” writes Moss. “We suffer pain or trauma or abuse, we are overwhelmed by grief or guilt or shame, and part of us goes away because it doesn’t want to stay in a world that seems so harsh and cruel.” Dreaming the Soul Back Home reminds us that dreams reveal levels and aspects of the psyche that may be dormant or missing from waking consciousness. The book addresses visitation dreams, precognitive dreams, dreams with a "voice only" message, and stories from people who have used dreaming for artistic or literary inspiration, to build a soul-centered business, and to discover their life's purpose. Laurel was interviewed in the Chicago Tribune for an article that appeared on Monday, April 23rd: http://tinyurl.com/8a4veet She was also the guest on four radio interviews, discussing why dreams are significant and interpreting dreams for callers: KFAT in Anchorage, Alaska on Thursday, April 26; WICC in Bridgeport, CT, WITT in Indianapolis, IN and WBZ in Boston on Friday, April 27. The WBZ interview extended into a 2-hour show because of the host's interest in dreams and the many people who called in. Laurel was also interviewed on April 27th on a TV magazine show called "Indy Style" on WISH-TV, the CBS affiliate in Indianapolis. DREAM POETRY OPEN MIKE AT CONFERENCE Betsy Davids and Richard Russo will be hosting a communal reading of dream-inspired poetry at the IASD conference in June, and want attendees to know in advance that this will be an open mike event so that they can prepare before coming to the conference. Bring dream poems of your own to read, or favorites by others that you would like to share. Everyone is welcome to participate, by reading a poem or just listening and enjoying hearing dream poetry read aloud. CARL JUNG AND NEUROSCIENCE: POST-CONFERENCE EVENT Sponsored by the Asheville Jung Center in conjunction with IASD, June 28, 2012: IASD and the Asheville Jung Center are pleased to announce a joint Internet symposium on “Carl Jung and Neuroscience.” This event will feature Murray Stein (President of the International School of Analytical Psychology) presenting from Zurich and Margaret Wilkinson (member of the editorial board of the Journal of Analytical Psychology) presenting from England, as well as presenters from the 29th Annual IASD International Conference held in Berkeley California (June 22 - 26, 2012). The IASD presenters at this point include Ernest Hartmann, David Kahn, and Stanley Krippner, with moderator Robert Hoss and Sonoma State University host, Laurel McCabe. The seminar will be five hours in duration with a one hour break (11:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Eastern time). Other partners in this event include Sonoma State University, the International School of Analytical Psychology and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. For information about this joint event please visit http://tinyurl.com/88qs3oy MEMBERSHIP NEWS Spotlight on Australia Sally Gillespie, IASD Member from Sydney I have always loved my dreams. They took me on adventures as a child, and made me laugh as an unhappy teenager. I found kinship in Carl Jung’s Memories, Dreams and Reflections, and went on to explore my dreams through Jungian analysis. Eventually dreams led me to work as a psychotherapist and dream group facilitator, and to write two books: Living the Dream (1996) and The Book of Dreaming (2000). There has been great joy, challenge and learning through engaging with dreams. I have frequently found myself being pushed and pulled in unexpected ways through my own and others’ dreaming processes. In recent years a series of dramatic and poignant climate change dreams have directed my attention to ecological issues, sparking major changes in my life and psyche. One outcome has been to conduct PhD research on psychological responses to climate change through group discussions and dream sharing. I was very fortunate to be able to present this research at Kerkrade last year, and then in Sydney last month at our inaugural Dream Network Australia conference which had a particular focus on social and environmental themes. Our conference generated an enthusiastic response to ideas and practices of dreaming the world, while being dreamt by the world. As a young dreamer I experienced dreams as my inner refuge, now I experience them as both call and response to living fully in this world, with all its wonders and heartbreaks. From Membership Chair, Diane Rickards Thank you, Sally Gillespie, for contributing to the Membership News this month, and bringing forward the dynamic interplay of dreaming with the world and the connections with climate change and ecological issues. This year my focus as membership chair is to bring forward, from IASD members, dream news that reminds us that dreams are perhaps the most rudimentary yet elegant way that we have to remember and re-connect within ourselves, with the world around us and with other dimensions of existence. As we move closer to the IASD “Sailing on the Sea of Dreams” conference this month, please consider introducing and inviting someone new to our dreaming community! IASD REGIONAL NEWS YOU CAN USE Soon, very soon, we will come together for the 29th Annual IASD Conference in Berkeley, CA. We welcome our new members and our new Regional Representatives: Ilana Laps, Melbourne, Australia, Rachel Silvini, Perth, Australia and Sven Doehner, Mexico City, Mexico. Throughout the year we prepare and eagerly anticipate this gathering of the “dream tribe” where we meet friends and colleagues from around the world. The many dances of connection that spontaneously arise throughout the conference converge in some planned communal circles and culminate in the Dream Ball. One of these circles of connection will be a lunch meeting of the regional representatives on Monday June 25. In previous years we have arranged a membership lunch with seating by geographic regions to facilitate face-to-face contact with regional reps and members in distinct regions. This year due to time constraints and a very busy conference, we will not hold this second regional lunch event. Instead, regional reps will make arrangements prior to or at the conference to contact members from their regions. Some of these are already arranged and others are still emerging. If your regional rep is attending the conference you will be contacted. For everyone attending the conference there will be a surprise, a focal gathering point for regions at the World Dream Tree. We think of the regions and emerging groups in IASD as seeds, roots and branches. Come to the World Dream Tree and add your dream poem or your region’s growth vision. Your imagination and playfulness will enhance the branches of the World Dream Tree. Use it as a place locator for regional connections throughout the conference. The list of regional reps will be available at the World Dream Tree. During the Australia regional conference a dream tree sculpture offered participants a place to tie on their dreams, thoughts and poems. Likewise, at our annual conference you are invited to the World Dream Tree, your place to share within and among regions. There were many articles in the May Dream News about regional events. We want to say thanks and congratulations once again, for the exceptional, professional and successful regional events of the past several months. In the Dreaming, Jodine Grundy, Regional Committee Chair AUSTRALIA "DREAMS AND IMAGINATION: HEALING PATHWAYS" - A HUGE SUCCESS The 1st Australian IASD regional dream conference: “Dreams and Imagination: Healing Pathways” was very successful on a number of levels. We are continuing to receive feedback from participants -- ”wonderful,” ”insightful,” “soul-making,” “inspiring,” “great creative learning opportunities” – these are some of the comments about the conference. We had 100 participants attending from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Mexico, Korea, Singapore and Canada. The program ran over three and a half days, and included 37 presentations, 4 morning dream groups, and art, storytelling and social programs. To read more about participants' feedback and see conference photos, visit www.dreamnetworkaustralia.com.au Susannah Benson , Regional Representative DREAMING CHANGED MY LIFE After a number of years being a vegetarian and traveling in various third world countries, my digestive system had gradually been growing weaker and weaker. It was getting quite serious in that I could only eat a very limited diet at certain times of the day. I was getting desperate since a continuing downward trend held big risks, short and especially long term. I asked an experienced dreamer friend if she would dream for me about it, since she was very interested in healing. She awoke from a very specific dream where she saw me taking this rare specialized digestive enzyme that is not even available by normal retail distribution. Within a week of taking these enzyme capsules my digestion was far better. Within a month or two I was back to, or even better than, normal and have been ever since. CELEBRATING THE 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE NICOLE GRATTON INTERNATIONAL DREAM SCHOOL OF MONTREAL How does such a dream begin? Nicole Gratton was 15-years old when her mother passed away. This was a moment of great challenge but her mother lovingly came to visit her in her dreams. It wasn’t until she was an adult in her early 30’s that Nicole came upon Patricia Garfield’s book, Creative Dreaming, which convinced Nicole that she was right to have trusted her dreams. In 1980 Nicole took her first dream course in Montreal with a spiritual approach developed by Paul Twitchell. She followed his training for two years and her skills as a dreamworker developed. For five years she also volunteered to visit long-term sentence prisoners to discuss dream subjects. By 1992, Nicole founded her dream school, “L’école internationale de Rêves Nicole Gratton”. She is now teaching others how to work with their dreams through active dreaming. It was in 1998 that Nicole heard about IASD for the first time. She was participating in the annual Book Fair in Paris when she met Roger Ripert. Then, also in 1998, Craig Webb introduced her to IASD. Nicole attended her first IASD conference in 1999. From 1994 to 2012, Nicole authored 15 books in French, distributed in Quebec and France. Three of these were translated into Italian and English: “Dream Incubation”, “Ideal Sleep”, and the latest “Dream and Death” (co-authored with Monique Séguin).
