Introduction:
Late 2006 I started adding a picture a day whenever I logged dreams. It started out as a temporary project of only a month, where I set out to log dreams every single day with the intention to track all ongoing themes from night to night for a whole month. The addition of images was supposed to enable a broader and more inclusive way of capturing dreams.

Having imagery for all days with dreams also opened the way for other creative projects. Late 2007 and early 2008 I created three mosaics to see what kind of overview it would give me for a month of dreams

I want to say that picking a good image for every single dream can be challenging at times. Trying to nicely combine some 30 images in a mosaic presents another challenge. However, nearly all the images in the mosaics are the originals I picked or created for the individual dreams.

Title of Work:        Much Fire and a Boat
Medium:                Digital Collage
Date Created:       October 2007

The visual representation of dreams show a different story than the textual descriptions. In October 2007 I logged at least one dream a day along with an image. When putting them all together in a mosaic two dreams ended up in the middle. The fire dream had a complex story ending in an underground area supported by pillars. Humanoids, but not humans, were about to put out fire with water to create gold. The boat dream featured the archetypical ferryman, shooting his boat out of the water across a road and then stopping next to me. The shape of the boat allowed it to carry lots of equipment and machinery.

If I had gone by the text of the dreams instead of the pictures, I may first have mentioned the car going at 400 km/hour (see upper right corner), or the very fun dream where people do a recreational puzzle bike tour, but flying on their bikes through the air, never touching the ground (left center). Looking at recurring themes in this month, I would list conflicts (look for the weapons) and aggressive giants (tower crane and giant with club).

Title of Work:        Ghosts and the Time Guitar
Medium:                Digital Collage
Date Created:        November 2007

For November I used the same recipe of at least one dream with a picture a day, with the pictures going into the mosaic. For the main dream I should have logged the sound, although that would have been impossible. A guitarist demonstrated how he could compress and otherwise manipulate time by using sound. The dream impressed me much but upon waking I simply could not translate the dream into any familiar concepts. The red hooded girl and the goose both come from a dream about a house with four small and shy ghosts. Somewhere around the time of this dream I had seen a few tv episodes about ghost hunters. The one time they actually may have encountered a ghost, they ran away screaming. I found that highly amusing. Apparently I decided to find a few ghosts myself in this dream. I discovered that actually seeing them this clearly indeed puts your nerves to the test.

Just like the previous month, November offers another nice flying dream, where I fly figures while standing on a snowboard (see close to the head of the guitar). I also dreamt that I fought with a lion because he ate a special owl I owned, one that I had just sent out to track my little niece in distress.

Recurring themes are less pronounced this month, but there is an interesting mutual dream with Laura Atkinson (see the green money bills at the bottom, next to the lion). November 12th I dreamt about my uncles and aunts all being together. They are moving some 30 million dollar from one bank account to another. I have no idea where the money comes from, except that I do have something to do with how we got it. November 12th Laura dreamt about meeting her uncle in a setting resembling a family gathering. He tells Laura that her dad will be handing out envelopes. He hands one out for me as well, worth $300 million.

Title of Work:        Playing on the Field
Medium:                Digital Collage
Date Created:        December 2007

For December I picked mainly one dream for the center of the mosaic. A day with various sport competitions was organized in my honor as a way of saying good bye and wishing me well with new endeavors. You may notice the overlaid concentric rings coming from a second and more abstract dream about healing the world. It’s one of those dreams where the conventional part of my brain just can’t keep up.

In my presentation “From Dreaming To Reality Creation” I tell about trouble with large trucks backing up on me without noticing me. There happen to be two of those trucks in this mosaic (top row left and bottom row left). The carpet sized white towel in the upper left corner also comes from a truck dream. A more short term recurring theme, running prominently for only a few months, comes back this month as well. The woman on the couch (top row right) introduced me to the concept of “secondary ghosts”. These are ghosts that come into existence because we think they exist, even though they never did before.
