Introduction:
I began a dream journal in 1992 to explore my abilities for lucid dreaming. My dream experiences became so intense, I felt an elevated sense of consciousness during wake-time, sleep dreamtime, and day dreamtime which overlapped rather seamlessly. All states became reality – particularly through my spiritual interpretation. Because I am tactile, expressing dream images is more than 2 dimensional for me, yet sequential (but not linear). I like how “stringing” beads and mixed media forms feels – to hold the common thread – and combine the “lost in time” sensation as well into each piece. The quality of these dreamtime experiences feels anchored in form, and can “surround” me when worn on my body.

Title:                  Goddess Guidance
Medium:            Strung glass beads & charms
Date Created:    1994

I constructed this piece based on strong female guardians who kept “appearing” in a series of dreamscapes over time. I could hear their voices as I walked along (dreamtime) forest paths in a meditative state, but could never actually see them. Signs and symbols were pointed out to me, like snakes, feminine forms, and glyphs.

Title of Work:      Elephant Spirit
Medium:             Strung glass beads & charms
Date Created:     2004

During a gentle afternoon nap I lapsed into a swirling image of blues and greens filling my visual field. It stabilized into a more solid image of a bluish-green elephant. I lost the pastel drawing created when I woke, which prompted me to re-create the captured image into a beaded necklace.

Title:               Troy’s Here
Medium:         African trading beads on leather
Date Created: 2002

My partner’s brother Troy died of AIDS at 25, 2 years before I even got to meet him. However, I was conversing with him during sleeping dreamtime. He wore these beads around his neck before he passed, so I re-beaded them into ankle bracelets for his sister and myself, as a reminder of his presence.

Title:                Phi Spirals
Medium:          Sterling silver, shells, semi-precious stones, glass & beads, pearls
Date Created:  2005

Composition inspired by spinning in recurring dream, where colors are muted in sepias and browns, yet my mind’s presence is crystal clear. Sharp outlines in visual field, coupled by keen sense of awareness of a Greater Power.

Title:                Sea Glow
Medium:          Strung glass beads, semi-precious stones, shells, pearls, glass pendant
Date Created: 2008

Imagistic expression of having recurring beach shoreline and tide-water dreams, where sunlight is diffused via my eyes under water, and I can breathe. Bubbles and sea foam constantly form around me in soft greens and pearly white colors.
