Notes from the Artist:

A Book of Shadows
The title “Shadow Sidhe” is a bit unusual. I refer to the “Sidhe” not only on a word play- ‘Sidhe” Side- or ‘other’ side but also to the pronunciation of the word- “Shee” from the Celtic term for a tribe of Fairies that live underground. These are the ‘people of the mound’ and there are many such earthen mounds in Ireland and England to this day. I have always felt a deep connection with the Fairy realm- in myth, legend, and yes, in Fairytales.

Pg. 1 The Cave of the Wise Woman
Is found when one enters into the ‘shroud’ or cover of darkness. When we close our eyes, we see our inner landscape- our kiva within. The Wise woman brings death as well as life. She uses her knowledge of the natural elements for healing. She uses her intuition to guide her on the path to Wisdom. When I am intuitive, I am also Wise.

Pg. 2 Ophelia
Is found drowned in the water within her madness. Choosing to loose herself, she is the sorrow to great to bear, the grief that remains after all tears have been shed. As I move into Healing, I remember all that is lost need not be forgotten.

Pg. 3 Morpheus
Is found within the Greek God of Dreams. As Shadow, he brings to us the ability to change and shift shape- to Metamorphosis. As I enter transition, I find myself walking with Morpheus.

Pg. 4 Diana
Is found as Artemis- Goddess of the wild.
She is the primitive, untamed Mistress of the Hunt. She is the great protector, defending the young and vulnerable. I find within Artemis, I can be a passionate advocate.

Pg. 5 Susi
Born Urania, She ruled with a regal love of five children. She found strength to leave an abusive home. In her last years, she chose to adopt troubled teens. Within my mother’s eyes, I see the power of love to break your heart, destroy your body and over come all obstacles. When I am with Susi, I am the power of love.

Pg. 6 Maiden and Mother
Is the free, sexual energy that is in youth. She is Self- confidence, exuberance, menstrual blood and feminine charm. She is also the Lover of women, sensual pleasure and giddy with laughter, joy and life itself. When I play, I am with the Maiden.

Pg. 7 Innocence
Is toddler hood- the age when one becomes self- aware, and begins to imagine. We view the world as ‘mine’. She can be selfish, fickle, mischievous, willful and completely without guile or pretense. When I am true to myself, Honest and sometimes blunt, I am innocent.

Pg.8 Amer
Is the Matriarch. She is the provider, the caretaker, and the nurturer. She had the ability to make each of her Grandchildren feel as if they were her favorite. No one ever left her house hungry, cold or lonely. When I am in need, I am with Amer.
