I am in a hot, arid place that has a certain feel of Australia. I walk up to a dead, solitary tree where three women are hanging. They are dead. They did not make it to the end of the season. I am overcome with grief. I hope their deaths were not painful, but I know they were.
In this, my dream, the story begins: “Back in ancient times when people were called trees”. I know this is an important dream. The feeling is intense, there is the number three. I think about the deaths of these three women. I know there has to be death before rebirth and that is where my photo essay begins.
I decide to photograph three women representing the three phases of a woman’s life: virgin, mother and crone, with trees that emulate these phases. My dream task through my photographs is to resurrect these primal energies in myself and hopefully, the viewer.
The medium is photography. I used infrared film, sepia toned many of the prints and hand colored them. I worked on the photos from 2001-2203. I created the iMovie in 2009.
