This is one of the few and definitely the most profound lucid dream I have ever had. I fell asleep on the couch on the last night of my vacation in Tucson.

The Dream

I am sleeping on the couch when I hear a noise. I sense there is a tiger behind the couch -- a really BIG tiger, as long as the couch. He swings his paw over the back of the couch and rests it around my neck. I feel it touch my breast. I am really, really scared. I can’t breathe. I then realize that there are no tigers in Arizona (there are other wild cats, but no tigers). I immediately know that I must be dreaming and I relax. I feel and hear the tiger breathing in my ear. It whispers (or maybe I just sense him thinking it), “I will watch out for you.” I feel safe -- and I wake up.

As it was only an hour or so before I planned to get up and prepare to go home, I decided to get up and watch the sunrise, which was less than a half-hour away. I recalled the very vivid dream and put it out of my mind as I made coffee and made my way out to the small "patio" off the living room of the condo. I took my camera and sat and waited. For an hour, I sat out on the patio which was situated on the top of a steep, overgrown hill. I took numerous pictures of the sunrise, clouds and scenery as I listened and watched the different birds waking up -- totally immersed in my surroundings.

As it was getting late and we had to leave for the airport, I went inside to get dressed. Within a minute, my cousin starts shouting -- a mountain lion, there’s a mountain lion outside. I run to the sliding door with my camera -- but he disappeared further up the narrow path before I could snap a picture -- and she wouldn’t let me open the door to peek outside.

I soon realized the mountain lion must have been nearby as I was sitting outside and then immediately recalled the dream -- the tiger was watching out for me -- ensuring the mountain lion wouldn’t harm me.

I was filled with awe the entire trip back to New Jersey and I still feel it whenever I think about it.
