Title of Work:     Alligator Mud
Medium:             Marker on Paper
Date Created:     9/11/2010

My husband and I are out fishing on a small boat on a sunny day.  We get in the water and start swimming around. The muddy water is about 2 feet deep.  It feels good sitting down in the water, rubbing the soft, silky mud on my arms and body. I am not afraid and I tell Danny how wonderful it feels.  I see several small, brown alligators swimming around us but not bothering us. However, as I move around, I accidentally get too close to one and he starts to come towards me.  I get scared and move away.  The same thing happens to my husband.

Then I look across the pond and see a white, juvenile alligator sitting on the steps of the dock.  He is facing me and has his mouth open wide.  I notice he has no teeth and that he is hissing at me.  I am surprised as I become aware that I am in the muddy water and he is on the dock; like something was out of place; odd.  I am curious...not afraid as we look at each other.  I am not sure what to do next.

Then I see Danny head off to the left to go to dry land to get in the car.  I go after him because I don't want to be left behind.  I start to feel frightened and panicked.  Then from behind me, I see a dark skinned man and his son come up on a small boat. I tell him  "It's ok, you can come in....alligator mud feels great" .   So, he leans over the side of his boat and just falls into the water....unsure of it all, but trusting what I say, so he can experience it too.  Then I get out of the pond and go running after Danny....trying to catch up.
