NEW INTERNATIONAL BOOK ON DREAMS AND SPIRITUALITY

IASD members from around the world have contributed to a new text edited by Kate Adams, Bart Koet and Barbara Koning. Dreams and Spirituality is a pastoral handbook that offers a comprehensive overview of the nature of dreams as understood from a range of diverse professional perspectives. It enables ministers, spiritual directors and counsellors to understand the nature of dreams and the role they play in the lives of those in their pastoral care.

Part One examines dreams from theological, psychological and cultural anthropological perspectives. Part Two explores the theme of dreams and religion through empirical data, theory and reflections. Part Three considers dreams and the practice of pastoral care for a variety of contexts and situations.

Interspersed with vignettes of spiritual dreams which have deeply impacted on people’s lives, the 22 contributors explore the potential of dreams to bring about renewal, healing, reconciliation and encounters with the transcendent.

THE 2015 IASD ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, VIRGINIA BEACH: THE DEPTHS OF DREAMS WRAPUP

IASD would like to thank all of the wonderful staff and volunteers personally for the terrific job you did on this year’s IASD International Conference which made it an astounding success. We had 270 attendees from 16 countries around the world, and presenters from 14 countries.

IASD would like to thank the many volunteers who worked to make this conference possible, particularly the members of the core Conference Committee, its chair Bob Hoss, and the support team - without them this event would not have been possible: Robert Gongloff, Richard Wilkerson, Laura Atkinson, Sylvia Green-Guenette, Jean Campbell, Bobbie Ann Pimm, Katja Valli, Alan Siegel, Dani Vedros, David Gordon, Jeff Armano, Geoff Nelson, Ryan Hurd, Janet Garrett, Curt Hoffman, Dale Graff, Catherine Campaigne.

We also wish to thank our forty-one pre-conference and onsite volunteers who performed masterfully and without whom the conference would not have gone as smoothly as it did. A major thank you to our twenty submission evaluators, the dream experts who are largely responsible for the final structure of the program, and who give totally of their own time and talents to support the conference program. And finally we wish to thank the presenters and attendees who made the conference a success, without you there would not have been a conference. We hope to see you back with us next year at the Rolduc conference center in the Netherlands.

Visit the Conference web site for further information on this past conference at www.asdreams.org/2015 or to plan for attending next year at www.asdreams.org/2016

Nominations Committee Update:

The officers nominated by the Nominating Committee to serve in the coming year were introduced to the membership at the General Membership meeting at the annual conference. They are as follows: Scott Sparrow, Board Chair; Susannah Benson, President; Laurel Clark, Vice-President; and Robert Waggoner, Treasurer. These officers are the voting members of the Executive Committee.

These officers took their positions at the annual board meeting held Friday, June 5, 2015. Officers serve a term of one year, but may be re-elected.

The five new member-elected directors were also introduced: Claude Desloges, Jordi Borras Garcia, Clare Johnson, Misa Tsuruta and Mary Melinda Ziemer.

Directors serve for a period of three years, and the new directors’ terms will expire in 2018. The practice has been to have 15 directors who are elected by the membership. Rather than replacing the entire Board every three years, and to maintain a cadre of experienced directors, it has been the practice of IASD to arrange it so that we only replace five directors each year.

In addition to the 15 member-elected directors, four to seven of our board members can be directly appointed by the Board. The Nominations Committee recommended two nominees for board-appointed positions: Jean Campbell and Robert Waggoner. At the February Board meeting, the Board accepted the recommendations and passed the resolution that the number of Board-appointed directors will be seven for 2015-2016. All officers and new board members assumed their positions at this first board meeting.

The Nominations Committee wishes to acknowledge and appreciate all the Directors whose terms of office ended in 2015 and thanks all the Board candidates who agreed to stand for election.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS
Bobbie Ann Pimm, Membership Committee Chair

Exciting news came out of the board meeting held on June 5, 2015. The board agreed to create a Membership Task Force to address the issue of increasing our membership numbers. I’d like to thank everyone that agreed to join together with me for this important task: Susannah Benson, Claude Desloges, Laurel Clark, Jean Campbell, Lou Hagood, Mary Ziemer, Curt Hoffman, Njeri Campbell, Jordi Borras Garcia, Misa Tsuruta and Richard Wilkerson. If you have any ideas or special insight regarding membership, please share them with me in an email or consider joining us on the task force

You can do your part in attracting more members simply by talking about dreams and the IASD to everyone you meet! When asking new members how they learned about the IASD, most of the time the answer is, “from a friend or colleague.”

Bobbie Ann Pimm, Regional Events Committee Chair

The regional reps that attended the annual conference in Virginia Beach enjoyed a successful Regional Reps Luncheon on Sunday June 6, 2015. It was a great opportunity to meet and greet each other and discuss strategies for the coming year. A special thanks to Lou Hagood for joining us and sharing his experience with hosting a very successful and profitable regional conference in New York in May. He was a great encouragement to others. There’s already talk among some reps about hosting a regional conference in the near future.
I would like to send a warm welcome to two new regional representatives. Deborah Waitley is joining us as our rep for San Diego, CA and Cristina Bottoni is joining us as our representative for Italy.

Speaking of meeting and greeting, I have found the Yahoo Group that we have set up for regional reps to be a valuable communications tool and would like to see every one of our reps join the group. If you are a regional rep and are not currently a member of the iasd-reps Yahoo group, please send me an email and I will send you an invitation to join us.

Do you know who your regional rep is? You can find a list of all the reps with their contact info here

If there is no rep for your region, please consider joining us. Send me an email for more information.

Regional Representatives Network

Please check the IASD website for up-to-date names and contact information for the regional representative in your area. The Regional Representative webpage is divided into regions, making your search more user-friendly.

If you do not have a Regional Rep for your area, consider volunteering to become one! You could serve an important networking role for IASD.

To volunteer to become a Regional Representative or for corrections or feedback on member contacts from Regional Reps, contact Bobbie Ann Pimm at bobbie@bobbieann.net
