ONLINE TELEPATHY CONTEST RESULTS

The correct target picture was #1. PINOCCHIO AND THE DONKEY (Pinocchio sitting on a floor wearing a green dress-like blouse and shorts with a wide white collar, donkey ears having sprouted from his head, which is round and has painted-on black hair. His mouth is open as he stares up into the face of a brown donkey with boots on its front feet who is standing over Pinocchio. The donkey’s mouth is also open as if braying. On the back wall is a an archery target with arrows in it. Also on the floor is a blue toy chest or trunk with a toy sailboat on top. A red drum is also on the floor near the donkey, as well as a yellow-orange ball, and a toy horn near a brown bag/sack.)

CONGRATULATIONS TO MARIA ALEXANDER AND MAUREEN MONROE WHO WERE JUDGED TO BE CO-WINNERS OF THE CONTEST. THREE OTHER ONLINE CONTESTANTS ALSO SELECTED THE CORRECT PICTURE: Patricia Grace, Barbara Kraus, and Richard Wilkerson.

Excerpts from their dream reports which seem to connect with the target follow:

MARIA ALEXANDER wrote in part, " A young boy was yelling, wearing a baseball cap..."

"...I was with my friend, S., who is a screenwriter. He is a tall and thin Irishman, with black hair, pale skin and blue eyes. We wondered what we should be doing. Then, a man sitting on the floor writing started quoting Aristotle loudly..."

"The wall opened and out paraded four pillars. Their bases were white, but their heads were all different: the first was a sphere, simply covered with lines; the second was another sphere, but this one was covered with the faces of philosophers under crisscrossed lines; the third had several identical dolls glued together like an M.C. Escher drawing, pinkish hair tied up in a big ponytail that stuck upwards on top of their heads; the fourth was a large horse’s head, like a chess piece Knight.."

..."A man dressed like a waiter stood beside one of the Italian restaurants, handing out free samples of pizza..."

"...The curtains were partially open, admitting a certain amount of glare from the sunlight. Forgetting why I originally left the family room, I pressed a panel on the dark mahogany wood wall.."

In submitting the above dream report, Maria commented on her choice of Picture #1: Even though I also hit Picture #2, there’s a preponderance of imagery from Picture #1 (my contest choice.) The last dream fragment prominently presents two spheres with lines (the dartboard and ball), the horse’s head (the donkey), the dolls with the ponytail" coming out of the tops of their heads (Pinocchio the doll with donkey ears), the Italian restaurant (Pinocchio is an Italian fairytale), and even the "glare:" from the sunlight (seen on all four online pictures from the camera flash) and the light and dark wall panels (as the pictures are presented online. Earlier fragments include the young boy yelling, a thin man with dark hair and fair skin, and a man sitting of the floor. "

PATRICIA GRACE wrote, "I had this flash image of a horse, with its mouth and eyes open, and something not too nice was happening or had happened with or to it..."

MAUREEN MONROE dreamt, "With KD--there are two bags of clothing in hefty or duffle bags...They are full."

..."Then I am in an audience watching a rehearsal for a variety show. I see B.B. come and sit behind me. A "B" performance with intricate costumes and people speak highly of the designers. I see straps for attaching strange shoes. Suddenly an Arrow lands on the seatback right in front of us! Very startling and puzzling. It freaks me out at how close it came to me. I wonder if I am the target, and who must have sent it and from where"...

She said, "That’s the Pinocchio dream, it appears to me." And she certainly connected with the bag on the floor and the target with arrows, and the strange shoes and boots worn by pinocchio and the donkey. Bob Van de Castle, co-author with calvin hall of the classic "the content analysis of dreams", commented that their research showed the incidence of arrows in dreams to be less than one in a thousand dreams, making maureen’s dream arrow right on the telepathy target!

RICHARD WILKERSON wrote, "...I look out the window and see a young boy who flies up to our 8th or 9th floor window from the tropical grounds below. He is a window washer or something like that. It’s the shirt he is wearing that allows him to fly up to the windows. Using the current of air in the area...I notice the boys’ shirt jut lying in the road like a guinea sack. I think to myself how odd it is to leave such a valuable thing in the road and wonder if ‘perhaps it only works a few times"

In discussing his choice, Richard said, " I found it a little hard to choose as I have an associate mind and not a telepathic one. But the sack was important in my dream and so I pick #1 or the donkey ears card.(And certainly Pinocchio’s shirt had a wide collar that looks like wings.)

BARBARA KRAUS wrote in part, "I am in a very yellow room. My son David is leaping from couch to couch. I look closely at him. I notice that he is wearing what appears to be braces on his teeth. These braces have altered the appearance of his face.

His behavior is very peculiar and I try to settle him down but he is being goaded on by his friend. I know that the boy he calls his friend is a trouble maker and I try to separate the two boys. ...Before that happens we see that David has chocolate cake all over his face. He must have dives into the birthday cake.

In discussing her choice, Barbara, "I have chosen picture #1, the donkey and Pinocchio. The braces distorted David’s face as does the long pointed nose of Pinocchio. David’s behavior reminds me of the story of Pinocchio getting involved with the wrong friends and the distortion of his nose every time he lied. Also the distortion of the other boys as they gradually changed into donkeys. At David’s first birthday we sat the cake on his high chair tray and he immediately stuck his face in it. Birthdays often remind me of the time we played pin the tail on the donkey. Yellow room--all four pictures were shown against a yellow piece of construction paper."

AND AS ALWAYS, THERE WERE HITS ON NON-TARGET PICTURES FROM THE POOL, AS SEEN IN THE FOLLOWING:

Picture #2--KING AND QUEEN IN ROYAL ROBES SURROUNDED BY MANY FAIRIES SWIRLING AROUND THEM.

BERTHE wrote,..."Why not try to connect while I’m awake, I thought-I kept seeing an image from this Bible Story; Jacob’s dream of the angels going up and down a ladder that reaches to heaven. Picture #2 with the little flying beings whirling around, is the closest to the images I saw when I though of the telepathy contest.

LINDA MAGALLON whose dreams contained these elements, among others:...Queen Anne’s chair, floral print...billowing ribbons of material (like that Renaissance ? painting of plump cherubs and ornate, folded material in the sky..."

CRAIG WEBB wrote: I see a twine or woven group of vines with colored berries or ball son it and a series of about four or five pairs of these dragon-fly wings on either side of the vine...After a while, it begins moving right and I see a circle of dragon- fly wings around the vine moving like a helicopter blade.."

Picture #3--JACK (OF JACK AND THE BEANSTALK FAME) WITH A GOLDEN HARP AND THE GIANT CHASING HIM ACROSS A HILLSIDE:

ED KELLOGG wrote, "My best match, picture #3, shows a man striding purposefully to the left, very congruent with the image I saw using the LDIT technique.....I see a 3/4 view of the man who seems the focus of the picture. I see his face in profile, the skin somewhat dark or tanned, the hair longish and white (?), and a bit windblown and in disarray. The picture captures him midstride walking purposefully to the left.."(as indeed the giant was...)

CAROLYN GROTH..."In my dream, I am with friends shopping by the harbour looking for sari’s to try on. I can only vaguely remember details of the fabrics..".perhaps the flowing cape reminded her of this?)

VICTORIA QUINTON.."rolling out mixture on a board then there was a complete gingerbread man in the sunny sky". ..(Rita’s note; In the poem about the gingerbread man he ran and he ran as fast as he can, just like Jack trying to escape the giant.)

J KLEMENCIC..."i’m wearing a man’s suit, double-breasted jacket with large pin stripes. my shirt has loud vertical stripes in different colors (similar to the one worn by the man in picture #3) i’ve borrowed the outfit from kd lang...we go to my closet where the shirts are, she pulls out two, both button-downs. dark blue solids...overall, I‘m just trying to prolong the experience with her. afraid that she’d run away like the little boy in the picture.

#4-- NATIVE AMERICAN MAN (NAKED TO WAIST, FEATHERS IN HAIR) AND WOMAN (DRESSED IN BUCKSKIN, FEATHERS FLOWER IN HAIR, NATIVE ADORNMENTS) IN CANOE ON PEACEFUL BLUE WATER WITH THREE SAILING SHIPS APPROACHING, SHORE WITH PINES AND OTHER GREEN TREES

JODINE GRUNDY: Fragments of her lengthy report follow:.

"...Color green, like asparagus green"

"As we drive to the event I put my head close to my friend’s head...I notice that his hair is dark black, unlike in waking life..."

"...One of the women is carrying my dress, a dress I am to wear for the occasion...actually, I have two dresses here,

"...The second one (woman" brings me a wooden hanger, a very substantial hanger, which she sets on a table of me...

"final part of dream: I am aware of the dress I am wearing ...it also has a pattern on it, not a floral pattern, more abstract and geometric note a necklace I am wearing which has a chain terminating in a simple pendant stone in an interesting setting...

(Jody related that stone and necklace to the sender’s photo in which Pia Kieding is wearing a similar outfit and necklace. However, the young Indian woman has a dress with geometric shapes and a necklace with a single stone and Jody wrote: "My choice of match with my d ream is #4 of the Indians on the water, the notable dress of the woman and pendant, black hair of the male companion, the flowing water, color green and reference to Indians. The shape of the heavy wooden paddle is similar to the wooden coat hanger in the dream. I also have many elements of #2 with the focus on two dresses and overall pattern design. But this is my second choice."

TOM TOWER chose #4 because of the following elements in his dream: "1. Moving water in lower left was correct. 2. The ‘small canyon’ corresponded to the canoe shape. 3. The blunt conical shape in center right" corresponded to the ship’s prow. The ‘jagged shapes resembling mountains’ are a perfect match for the background. 4. The ‘lush green enformont is a direct match for the distant mountains. 5. Although" arid" is hardly a descriptor of the water in the picture, it’s not a bad analog for flat, unbroken possibly bleak surface. 6. I completely missed the human occupants of the boat but did mention "sensual".

VINCE QUINLAN " #4 based upon: Large lake that (in the background) is spanned by a long white bridge that is a single long arch from one shore to another. A train is crossing he bridge. There are green trees on the far side of the lek (pines and other tall trees...) Vince’s dream also contained automobile imagery similar to the dream submitted by dream of Richard Wilkerson.

ANITA SANDEFUR FOR DAUGHTER KELSEA WHO IS NINE-YEARS-OLD); "...Suddenly I found myself on a ship with A that had an inside and border like thing connected to the ship, so you could stand on it and look out at the sea, and when I did I saw a floating house that looked like one of my Polly Pockets. So me and A pulled it inside our boat and figured out the L I saw was the same L I saw in the picture. The one that had long brown hair with red stars on her face and her white knitted sweater with a Power Puff girl on it. (Anita explained: A is a friend from school with short hair, the miniature house of white and blue resembles one of the ships in the distance, and L is a friend that appeared in a prior part of the dream that fits the description of the girl in the canoe.)

JOAN BAKULA picked up the sailing aspects of the target, "...We are to sail around the world or part of it stopping at various countries...

Bob Van de Castle and I would like to thank all of you who participated in this year’s telepathy contest and congratulate you on your many hits on the target and on the other pictures in the pool, which though not official winners nonetheless provide interesting examples of the connections our dreaming minds make.
